Jiu Jitsu Master Helio Gracie Dead at 95

A shock went through the martial arts world  yesterday as news came out that Jiu Jistu Master Helio Gracie was dead.  He died at age 95, in a hospital in Rio de Janeiro.  Master Gracie was best known for his work in bringing Jiu Jitsu to Brazil, and then to the rest of the world.  He was truly a legend, and will be missed.

Washington, DC – The Ultimate Warrior Challenge (UWC) announced today the signing of a fight between national women’s champion kickboxer Felice Herrig and local fighting sensation Iman Achhal. The 120 pound fight will take place at UWC 5: MAN “O” WAR, which will be held February 21st, 2009 at the George Mason University Patriot Center Arena in Fairfax, VA.

Product Review: Bowflex Revolution

I’ve said time and time again that fitness is a very important part of the life of any serious martial artist.  With that in mind, a few months ago I started looking into some proper exercise equipment for the house.  Let’s face it – most people dont get to the gym as much as they should, and having something at home can be very handy (so long as the problem is one of time, and not one of motivation).  In the end, I settled on what you see here: the Bowflex Revolution.  We’ve all seen the ads on TV, but that doesnt prove anything.  What everyone wants to know is whether or not it is any good.  Well, it has been a few months and so I think I’m ready to give it my verdict.

YAY! For results

For the last month or two… I really cannot remember exactly when I started to do this every morning; I have been weight lifting with our bowflex.  I read through the book and found that it was too confusing and took a few exercises and made them my own.  There are 4 exercises I took from the book, and modified a bit, and then there are 3 I just kind of made up.  I started with 10 lbs on each side and have added 5 lbs on each side this weekend.
